  Property Cleaning Checklist for all Rental Homes

House cleaning: Begin in one room starting at the ceiling working your way down to the floor.  Bring a broom, vacuum, mop, paper towels, small soft towels, Windex, Soft Scrub, Pine-sol, Ammonia, a tooth brush, pumas stone, oven cleaner, degreaser, dishwashing liquid, Pledge or Old English Polish, Goo Gone, Bon Ami, light bulbs and batteries.

All Areas:
Wash or wipe the ceiling, light fixtures, light switches, outlets, phone and cable jacks, windows (inside and outside), window tracks, screens, blinds, all window coverings, walls, baseboards and floors. Vacuum the edge of the room with a crevice tool to remove dust and dirt from the edges of the room. Dust the closets; the shelves and closet floors. Door handles and door trim. Remove any marks inside of closets. Remove any marks from all heat vents.

Bathrooms:
Again, start at the ceiling working down to the floor. Removing dust and cobwebs from the fan/cover, heater and vents, walls, ceiling, windows, track, doors, trim and knobs, light switches. Scrub bathtub/shower removing any mold, soap scum, mildew. Polish all fixtures, mirrors, towel bars then dry. Vacuum each drawer, shelf and cabinet removing any dust and debris. Sinks and toilets are to be disinfected, inside and out. To complete bathroom cleaning be sure to use a disinfectant in and out of the toilet. Sweep and mop floors.

Kitchen:
Vacuum all cupboards, drawers and shelves inside and out. Hand wipe all countertops, dishwasher, wipe outside and inside and door frame. Remove any dirt, soap, water spots or stains of any kind. Sinks and all fixtures polished. Frig is to be moved from wall vacuuming the back and any coils. Defrost if needed, disinfect shelves and drawers. Remove all drawers and shelving. Cook top cleaning should be done on top, sides and underneath, remove burners, scrubbing drip pans and polishing rings. Remove stove drawer sweeping underneath and inside. Use a soft scrubber for the inside and outside of hood fan and cover. Oven racks removed.  Set self cleaning range and remove all spills and marks. Oven cleaner sprayed and all spills removed. Sweep and mop floors.

Yard:
Remove all trash, toys, belongings, debris from the yard area, parking and storage area. Sweep all siding, walls, light fixtures, overhangs inside and out. Remove any hooks, ropes, pots or any attachments for hanging plants. Scrub and remove all stains from outside grilling, patio furniture, spills or stains of any kind. Remove all grease and oil. Sweep the entire garage or carport and storage area.  Sweep the patio. Check that all light fixtures are in working order. Mow lawn, weed flowerbeds, and adequately water each.

Cleaning Tips and Hints:
  • To remove mold from caulking in the tub or shower. Spray a small amount of Clorox on caulking and let dry. Repeat if needed.
  • Place stove hood fan filter and light covers in the dishwasher.
  • If using an oven cleaner set oven on a low temperature to expedite the process.
  • Use a dry toothbrush to clean dirt and marks from light switches.
  • A Pumas stone for hard water marks from toilet. Be sure to keep it wet to not scratch.
  • Use pine-sol and water on walls and for most cleaning.
  • Mop floors with warm water and ammonia.
  • Polish faucets and chrome with Soft Scrub.
  • After wiping cabinets and cupboards with Pine-Sol; polish with Pledge or Old English.
  • Use Goo Gone for any gum or stickers.
  • Windex for polishing mirrors and chrome.
  • Bon Ami for sinks and tubs to prevent scratching of surfaces.
  • Light bulbs are usually 60 watt or lower.
  • 9-volt batteries for smoke detectors.
  • Stains in carpets are to be left for the professional
During the cleaning process, note all damages and necessary repairs notifying management of each.
